This blog explains the various types of work that voice artists and voice actors do while recording professional messages for various audiences.
A professional voiceover artist can take on many tasks as
part of their work. The assignment mandates the direction in which they go
while in production. For example, the voice in a YouTube marketing clip will be
different from that of a narrator in a Hollywood film.
The thing to remember is that there are many unique voices
out there. There are some voices that sound really great as a news broadcaster
but might be a little awkward participating in a “natural” sounding dialogue.
Some do it all as jack of all trade types. Others specialize.
Here are three common styles in the world of professional voice messages.
The narrator
A voiceover artist’s most typical role is that of the
narrator. Whether they announce a promotion, outline the details of a course,
or deliver a set of choices for a recorded telephone menu, there is some
narration going on in the background (if not the foreground).
The promotional voice
Another style is the promotional voice, often heard in
commercials and advertisements. This type of commercial voice recording is
centered around selling something in an exciting or convincing manner. The
trick is to make the tone work for the target market.
The actor
In some cases, the actor is necessary. This could be the
case for cartoons, audiobooks, dubbed films, and even some e-learning courses. Explainer
voiceover talent, for example, will use the best and clearest sound to
communicate learning objectives or emotions at the right time.
